Ulrik, Herald of the Four Winds

The Herald of the Four Winds is a mysterious force, a shadow, a whisper in the darkened hallways of the Imperium. His name is both infamous and unknown, for many within the privy circles of the Inquisition regard the name of Ulrik as little more then a myth..

Ulrik himself is an important component of the Four Winds of Chaos. Without him, the lines of communication between the four Lords of the Four Winds would be slowed at best and at worst, severed completely. It is Ulrik which forms the most direct link between them all, acting as messenger and reveling in the multitude of secrets his guarded position affords him knowledge of.

However, his tender position within the Four Winds ins tenuous at best, and he takes great steps to never overstep his implied limits of personal power as Ulrik knows that he is seen as a pawn for his patrons, quickly and easily replaced with another more subservient minion should he become too powerful or should he simply fail.

But it is Ulrik who has turned this to his own advantage, as he often has the benefit of considerable knowledge of each of his patron's minds and objectives, and cunningly forms his own plots and plans, using each meeting with the Four Lords to his advantage.

In battle, he can call upon a small standing army of his own, known throughout the galaxy as the Angel Marauders who turned from the Emperor's light following a brief but bloody campaign against the combined fleets of Gemiel and Arnell.

When the campaign drew to a close, Ulrik was perfectly placed to approach the Chapter alone, and he quickly garnered the Chapter's trust, posing as an Imperial emissary of great import sent from a fellow Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes and through years of subtle manipulation through human intermediaries, Ulrik managed to implant the Chapter with the beginnings of open heresy.

When the Inquisition became aware of the Angel Marauder's heretical creed, they were quick to declare them Excommunicate and Ulrik was there to protect the Chapter at the head of a vast Blood Wind army, securing the fates of the surviving Angel Marauders and forever binding them to his will.

Special Rules:

Angel Marauders: Ulrik is often accompanied by a squad of Space Marines from the Angel Marauders Chapter who act as bodyguards for the Herald.

He may be accompanied by a retinue of unmarked Chaos Space Marines bought as normal from Codex: Chaos Space Marines.

Herald of the Four Winds: Ulrik acts as messenger and go-between for the four Lords of the Four Winds.

If Ulrik is on the table, all Reseve rolls for the Four Winds of Chaos benefit from a +1 bonus. Note that a roll of a '1' is always a failure.

Skilled Orator: Ulrik has a silvered tongue with which he has bequiled many into service and can bolster the morale of troops who would otherwise turn and flee.

All units within 6" of Ulrik may re-roll failed Morale Checks and Pinning Tests.

The Chaos Space Marines

When the Emperor unified holy Terra, it was at the head of a vast army of humans and his elite armies of genetically engineered super-soldiers.

It was only when Horus, who had been given command of the Great Crusade in the hopes that he would continue the Emperorís great work that the greatest betrayal took place. Leading fully half the Legions against his master and mentor, Horus struck at holy Terra and in so doing changing history. Horus was eventually defeated and the traitorous Legions were driven back and into the Eye of Terror.

It is these very same traitorous super soldiers, dubbed the Astartes during the Great Crusade, that form the bulk of the Four Winds of Chaos forces. However, it is not to say that the Four Winds havenít received aid from newly turned renegades.
