Librarians are potent warrior-mystics whose abilities extend far beyond that of their fellow Astartes. Able to draw upon the power of the Warp, Fists of Flame Librarians are able to hurl sheets of burning psychic flames, enveloping their enemies in super-heated air or boil the blood of their enemies with a mere thought. They can cause flames to bend and flow at their merest whim, or turn the light of a candle into a raging torrent in an instant.

However, these abilities come at a cost, for each and every Librarian faces a myriad of horrors and dangers even before they earn their place amongst the Chapter's Librarium. Whenever they draw upon the power of the Warp, their bodies, minds and very souls come under threat from those within the Empyrean. It is only through intense training, immense strength of will and countless years of training that Librarians develop safeguards against the predators of the Warp. Even then, Librarians can still be tainted, or even worse, possessed by especially potent daemons and the Chapters Librarians and Chaplains are forever watchful for the signs of warp taint with the only cure being a switch death at the hands of their erstwhile Battle Brothers.

When not actively on combat duty, Librarians are given the task of maintaining the Chapter's Librarium. A vast repository of knowledge and lore, the Chapter's Librarium houses centuries of information. Every skirmish, battle and campaign gets documented and reviewed endlessly and every fallen Battle Brother recorded on immense tomes that are sealed in massive stasis chambers.

It also falls to the Librarians to keep constant records of the Chapter's fighting strength and their placements throughout their territory and it falls to a small legion of scribes to update the complex logic engines with such information as it arrives from as far a field as the Chapter's furthest reaches but due to the nature of Astropathic communication, such reports are often hours, if not days out date by the time they are inputted into the monumental data stacks found deep within the Librarium.

Unique Wargear:

Familiar: Librarians are often accompanied by a cybotic construct which warns the user of potential danger.

If a Librarian has Familiar, he is treated as a piece of Wargear in all respects and cannot be harmed in any way and will be removed if the Librarian is removed. It takes up no space in a transport and must remain within 2" of the Librarian at all times.

A Librarian with a Familiar gains +1 Initiative and +1 Attack to represent that of the Familiar.

Power Over Fire: Fists of Flame Librarians all develop pyrokine abilities which allows them to control fire with a mere thought and easily turn a raging firestorm into little more a candle's flame

Wounds inflicted by Flamers, heavy flamers, Eldar "Dragron's breath" flamers and all equivalent weapons are ignored.

  • If Terminator armour is not taken, following options may be taken:
    • Jump pack for +20 points
    • Space Marine bike armed with twin-linked bolters for +20 points
  • Upgrade power armour to artificer armour for +15 points
  • Replace bolt pistol with:
    • Plasma pistol for +15 points
    • Boltgun for free
    • Storm bolter for +5 points
  • Replace bolt pistol/storm bolter with:
    • Power fist for +20 points
    • Thunderhammer for +25 points

    • Combi-flamer, combi-plasma or combi-melta for +10 points
