Chapter Master Mars Aran

Mars Aran is without peer within the Chapter. His tactical genius, centuries of first-hand experience in all types of conflicts and exceptionally gifted commanded, Mars Aran leads through example, extolling the virtues that all Fists of Flame aspire to be.

It is not only his peerless leadership, dogged charisma and extensive combat experience that makes him so dangerous a foe, it is his expansive psychic abilities that have earned him renown throughout the Chapter"s territories. On Galdri, he is known as "The Son of the Stars", on Grip"quin Prime he is "Aran of the Flames" and to the mystics of Vull, "the Farsighted One".

As Master of the Librarium, Aran holds the keys to the mysterious artefacts that lie locked behind the ancient vault door deep within the Librarium at the heart of the Scourge of the Damned. He alone has the remit to visit the cursed, damned and chaotic artefacts held by the Chapter. Each artefact is held within a stasis chamber behind numerous protective wards, power fields and alarm systems, for to utilise them would invite damnation.

As a young warrior, Aran partook of the Great Pilgrimage as required by the Chapter"s ancient rites, travelling from the small village of Bulpeck to the northern wastes to present himself before the polar fortress of the Flaming Angels.

Before could finish the Great Pilgrimage, he was caught by a Tarsissian Terror within sight of the great polar fortress. Armed with only a simple wooden spear as he was, Aran knew he was mere moments from death and prepared to sell his life dearly.

As the Terror pounced, Aran aimed a spear blow at the creature‘s exposed underbelly, striking a glancing blow as the creature landed heavily on the young Mars Aran.

Even without thinking Aran felt the claws of the Terror bite into his flesh. Whilst the pain flooded Aran"s mind, something buried deep within him erupted to the surface. White-hot flames burst from Aran"s body, driving the Terror back as the flames consumed all within reach. However, the mortal wound had been dealt and as Aran lay there, slowly dying of his bloody wounds, a white armoured warrior appeared over Aran‘s crumpled body and the great Flaming Angel saved the boy‘s life that day as he took him into the belly of the Thunderhawk gunship to be attended by the Chapter‘s Apothecaries.

Unique Wargear:

Flameshroud: The Chapter possesses two Flameshrouds, crafted by Vulkan himself for the Primarch Rogal Dorn himself during the Horus Heresy. It has since found their way to the Fists of Flame as their entrusted keepers.

They take the form of two-headed axes that constantly writhes with flame when Mars Aran grips its gem encrusted haft.

Each Flameshroud counts as a force weapon.

In addition, Mars Aran may utilise a portion of his power each turn to create a searing blast of white-hot flames. Mars Aran may fire the Flameshroud once per turn and it has the same profile as a flamer.

If Mars Aran is equipped with the second Flameshround, treat the flamer attack as a heavy flamer and he gains +1 Attack in combat for having two combat attacks. He may also attempt to slay a second opponent outright by passing a second Psychic Test, provided he has not used a Psychic test that turn.

Special Rules:

Chief Librarian: Mars Aran is still the Chief Librarian of the Chapter.

He is a psyker and may use two Psychic powers per turn.

Living Icon: Mars Aran embodies the very honour of the Chapter, forming a living icon in his own right.

If Mars Aran is on the battlefield, all Fists of Flame units benefit from a +1 to their Leadership to a maximum of 10. This bonus can be used when taking any Leadership based tests such as Moral Checks, Psychic tests etc.

Power Over Fire: Fists of Flame Librarians all develop pyrokine abilities which allows them to control fire with a mere thought and easily turn a raging firestorm into little more a candle's flame

Wounds inflicted by Flamers, heavy flamers, Eldar "Dragron's breath" flamers and all equivalent weapons are ignored.

Rage of Flames: It is said that when Mars Aran is within the heat of battle, his body erupts into brilliant, white-hot flames.

If Mars Aran is in combat with at least two models, he may cast the Psychic power, Fireaura, without needing to first pass a Psychic test and therefore may utilise up to three psychic powers that turn.
