The Predator is a symbol of death from afar for the Fists of Flame. A forceful stalker, the humble Predator has seen service in every major campaign that the Fists of Flame have waged in its long history.

Based on the Rhino APC chassis, the Predator is the up-gunned and up-armoured variant designed to either lay down a torrent of firepower with autocannon and heavy bolter, or to slay tanks with an array of lascannons.

Whatever the armament, the Predator contrasts with the rapid strike tactics favored by the Chapter. As such, Predators are only employed in protracted campaigns or where there is to be significant enemy armour brought to bear against the Fists of Flame.

During prolonged campaigns, Predators often form guard details for the Chapter's armoured fighting machines when they are unable to bring the enemy to battle and have to fall back to armoured fighting columns to catch their fleeting enemies.

The most famous Fists of Flame Predator was the Destructor Scythe of Orsos. During the xenos raid of Calrun, combined Ranger, Guardian and Aspect Warrior forces of the Cha'Los Eldar infiltrated the two principal hive spires of Calrun and it was the Scythe along with three score Sentinel squads that stood in defence of the Gate of Sorrows, the last bulwark before the hive proper.

Gunning down hundreds of the enemy before its internal ammo stores were spent, the Scythe held the Gate with its armoured bulk, running down and rampaging through the enemy ranks even as enemy grav-tanks took up positions to finally break the siege. It took the concerted efforts of three enemy Fire Prism grav-tanks firing in tandem to bring the Scythe to bear and render its armour asunder.

Even with the death of their tank, crew of the Scythe of Orsos didn't relent in their duty. Emerging from the stricken tank, the threeman crew fended off the continual enemy assault of Guardians, Aspect Warriors and Jetbikes until a Storm squad could be dispatched to provide support and even with the fresh Battle Brothers supporting them, the fight was not over for the Eldar renewed their attack. Over the course of several minutes, the battle around the Scythe grew more intense as more and more Eldar troops joined the fray.

The combat was eventually broken when the Hammer of Tarsiss teleported down at the head of a tide of Terminators that broke the back of the Eldar attack and drove them back so that Techmarines could traverse the distance between the Gate of Sorrows and the stricken Scythe.

Eventually, the damage was repaired by the Chapters Techmarines and the Scythe of Orsos returned to service.

The Machine Spirit

There exists in all Astartes vehicles a kind of sentience all their own. Cold, base logic forms the foundation of the Machine Spirit inherent to all Astartes vehicles and some vehicles are given greater sentience then others.

These sentiences are inbound into each vehicle, and offer a limited form of combat logic from targeting assists to powerful tracking and battlefield analysis. Others are required by virtue of their use, such as in the case of the Whirlwind, for the complex logistical challenges required to launch a missile and have that exact same missile strike the target many hundreds of feet away with little more then a set of coordinates are immense.

Others still offer full automation, as in the case of the Vindicator. Shells are primed, loaded and the breach of the powerful Demolisher cannon closed automatically with little crew intervention, although they must remain ready and able to take over in the event of power failure or similar happenstance.

Indeed, even the simple Rhino features complex fault diagnostic equipment and self-repair protocols.
