Storm Squads are known for their daring attacks, plunging from Thunderhawk gunships soaring above the battlefield as deadly white-armoured angels falling upon their enemies with chainsword and bolt pistol in hand on wings of fire.

Unlike the ground-based Vengeance squads, Storm Squads are equipped with thundering jump packs, allowing them to cross the ground extremely quickly to assail the enemy and his fortifications with ease. It is this speed, and their ability to deploy from Thunderhawk that makes Storm squads such valuable tools to a Master of War.

Each Storm squad member is given extensive instruction and training in the use of the Jump pack and only when they have mastered flight will a Fists of Flame Space Marine take to the skies over a battlefield, for an ill-trained warrior with a jump pack is a danger to everyone around him and not just to the enemy. Until such time as the Veteran is sure that a newly promoted member of his squad has earned the Veteran's approval that he has indeed mastered his jump pack, he will instead fight with one of the Chapter's Vengeance squads during any campaign the squad is assigned to.

The role of the Storm squad is to break a wedge in the enemies line with blade and pistol, and are amongst the first to enter the fray. Chapter doctrine dictates that it is the Storm squads task to create a gap in the enemies lines, the Vengeance squads to widen the gap and the Sentinel's task to hold the newly captured ground.

Storm squads fight with bolt pistol and chainsword almost exclusively with only heavier weapons being employed if the battle requires it as it is often said that such weapons slow the squad down, giving the enemy vital time to prepare a defence or counter-attack against an inbound Storm squad.

They are also given krak grendes, if not the more destructive meltabombs, to destroy any armoured support the enemy may employ against them, and so Storm squads can wreak untold havoc in the enemies lines.

Indeed, during the Schism of Golchis, Fists of Flame Storm squads were employed against the forces of the Khorne Lord Arnell, descending from Thunderhawk gunships behind enemy lines to sabotage the enemy supply lines and capture key refuelling and resupply stations from the enemy. Once they had be taken from the enemies hands, such key locations were reinforced by Sentinel squads deploying from drop pod whilst the Storm squads were extracted by the Chapter's few Stormravens, ready to strike again at a moment notice.

Storm squads can also be called upon to act as forward scouts in battle and such squads are equipped with homing beacons, which broadcast positional and targeting data to the Astartes vehicles orbiting above, allowing the Fists of Flame to get precise information on enemy disposition and placement. They also allow the Fists of Flame to deploy Terminator squads by teleporter technology right into the heart of the enemy territory to destroy specific targets.
